I've lately been responding to questions on Quora.com, and this one in particular stood out to me.

What skills are needed to make a good salesperson? 
Vince lombardi, hall of fame NFL football coach, always taught to "focus on the fundamentals."
Using the fundamental sales tips I share below, I was able to take my little garage start-up to now producing more than $10,000,000 a year. 
1) Great salespeople ask questions
They don't simply offer what they want to sell. They listen to their customers attentively and figure out what's the best solution for each case.
2) Great salespeople learn from their mistakes
They know that the only way to grow and improve their sales approach is by accepting that once in a while they will make mistakes. But they know that a mistake must not be made twice.
3) Great salespeople take care of their look
They dress the part and are always dressed for success. Having self-esteem is an essential part of being a great salesperson.
4) The best salespeople have strong Persistence
Just because they hear “no” the first time, it does not make them quit. They follow up regularly and make sure they stand out in the potentials clients’ mind.
5) Amazing salespeople are always networking
"It's not what you know, it's who you know". They are always looking for new events and attend social hours whenever is possible.
6) Great salespeople are the best students
The best salespeople in the world learn from others and are always looking for new pieces of advice that will give them the edge.
7) The best salespeople are always recruiting
Most powerhouse sales people build a team under them and they don't care if they are at a movie, restaurant, or bowling alley - they take time to recruit people that have the potential to be successful within the team. They are always looking for "Diamonds in the rough"
8) Great Salespeople get up early
Salespeople know that starting the day early give them an upper-hand on their competition. By waking up early they can prepare their day for success.
9) Great Salespeople set goals that are obtainable
They always try to set really high goals and make sure they can hit those goals. Write them down: short and long term, and watch them turn into reality.
10) Great salespeople lead by example
They would never ask someone to do something they wouldn't, this is how they create trust.
